The Goodhope District Council has secured P1.5 million in government funding to expand the Mosi milling project, with land acquisition already underway.
The funding, allocated by the Ministry of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, will go toward constructing and equipping the new milling facility. Council Chairperson Gofaone Nkwane announced the development during a council meeting yesterday.
“The project is aimed at diversifying the economy in the district,” Nkwane said.
Located near the Mosisedi farming area, the expanded facility will process large volumes of grain. A key focus will be the production of sorghum meal for supply to primary schools in the district. Goodhope is one of Botswana’s largest grain-producing areas.
Officials say the project is expected to reduce poverty, strengthen food security, and create local employment opportunities.
The council has already submitted a land application for the site.
