The Ministry of Trade and Entrepreneurship (MTE) seeks Expressions of Interest (EOI) from local companies for consideration to export under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement.

The AfCFTA is a flagship project under Agenda 2063 of the African Union (AU), aimed at fostering Africaโ€™s economic integration and achieving the continentโ€™s development vision of “๐“๐ก๐ž ๐€๐Ÿ๐ซ๐ข๐œ๐š ๐–๐ž ๐–๐š๐ง๐ญ.” It aims at creating a single integrated and efficient African market as a means towards significantly increasing intra-Africa trade in value added goods and services across sectors. Botswana signed this Agreement in 2019 and submitted its instrument of ratification on 19th February 2023. The AfCFTA provides opportunity for Botswana to access new export markets and production inputs from African countries at competitive prices. This provides an increased potential for Foreign Direct Investment and participation in regional and global values chains.
The selected companies will undergo a due process of diagnostic assessments to ascertain level of export readiness. Based on diagnostic results, companies will be assisted with tailor made interventions aimed at improving their readiness and converting them into sustainable exporters under the AfCFTA.

๐’๐ž๐ฅ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐‚๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐š

1. Targeted sectors include; Light Manufacturing (i.e Manufacturing activities that are more raw material oriented and typically produce consumer goods) , Indigenous Products, Garments and Textiles, Meat and Meat Products, Jewellery and Semi โ€“ precious stones, Arts and Crafts, Leather and Leather products. Companies with export potential falling outside the scope of the sectors identified will be considered on a case by case basis
2. Company must be in total control of production, operation and marketing of products or services offered
3. Company must be in sound financial status with healthy cash flow and should submit two year financial statements
4. Management commitment to becoming an exporter and developing the export side of the business, including a willingness to commit resources for cost sharing partnership
5. Submission of detailed Company Profile with relevant company documents (Certificate of Incorporation, Share Certificates and Certified Copies of IDs of shareholders)
6. Submission of a formal letter to MTE expressing interest to be considered stating the current level of investment and the current level of employment
